The TOE is a Machine Readable Travel Document (MRTD), also known as ePassport that is a travel document in the form of paper, plastic and a chip. It presents visual readable data including (but not limited to) personal data of the MRTD holder:
- The biographical data on the biographical data page of the passport book
- The printed data in the machine readable zone (MRZ) and
- The printed portrait.
This is a composite smart card, consisting of a certified hardware platform (T6ND1 series Integrated
Circuit with Crypto Library) and MRTD software (Operating System and commands).
The T6ND1 is a secure single chip microcontroller with a RF type communication interface compliant to ISO/IEC I4443 Type B. It consists of a central processing unit (CPU), memory elements (ROM, RAM, non-volatile memory) and circuitry for the RF external interface that have been integrated with consideration given to tamper resistance.
The MRTD software behaves in accordance with ICAO Doc 9303 and provides Active Authentication, Basic Access Control and facilitates Passive Authentication. The TOE consists of the security
functions: Memory access control, Sensitive data with CRC checksum, encrypted key data on non-volatile memory.
